The Iowa State women’s soccer team ended its California trip in frustrating fashion.

The USC Trojans used a dominant first half to hand the Cyclones a 2-0 defeat Sunday afternoon.

The Trojans scored within seven minutes of kickoff, with junior forward Leah Pruitt scoring from eight yards out to make it 1-0. They followed up that goal with another in the 20th minute with a goal from senior forward Alex Anthony.

The heat in Los Angeles was high on Sunday, and the officials called for two water breaks for the players, one occurring in each half.

The Cyclones took seven shots but failed to register a single shot on target. USC had 21 shots and nine shots on target. The Trojans had five fouls to the Cyclones’ three over the course of the game.

After today’s loss, the Cyclones fall to 2-4-1 on the year. Only one non-conference game remains before Big 12 play. Ninth-ranked Florida comes to Ames on Sunday, September 17th at 12 p.m. at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
