Cyclones fall short in Austin

Once again, missed chances spelled doom for the Cyclones.

The Iowa State women’s soccer team had chances to come back, but couldn’t prevent a 1-0 Texas victory Friday night.

The Cyclones started with the same 11 that started the Florida game, and got off to another strong start. Junior forward Klasey Medelberg had a shot go wide of the post eight minutes in.

no. 17 Texas created its fair share of chances, but in the first half sophomore goalkeeper Antonia Reyes saved four shots and kept the Longhorns out.

Texas struck five minutes into the second half, as freshman forward Haley Berg broke through the Cyclone midfield and beat Reyes with a shot into the top left corner.

The Cyclones kept fighting. In the 60th minute junior midfielder Emily Steil cannoned a shot off the crossbar, and Iowa State’s best chance went begging.

Texas had 18 shots to Iowa State’s 11, and the Longhorns forced Reyes to make eight saves on the night. The Longhorns continue their unbeaten start to the season and will play no.5 West Virginia Sunday afternoon.

Iowa State will play Baylor on Sunday, hoping to stop a now four-game losing streak.
