Iowa State tennis glides to 7-1 doubles wins on second day of Gopher Invitational

On the second day of the Gopher Invitational, the Iowa State tennis team went 7-1 during the second day of doubles play, but had a middling 6-7 record to begin singles play at the invitational.

During the No. 1 singles bracket, Maty Cancini lost her first match before winning her second finishing the day 1-1. Ekaterina Repina lost her first and only match of the day.

Annabella Bonadonna and Regina Espindola both went 1-1 in the No. 2 singles bracket.

Margarita Timakova played well going 2-0 on the day while participating in the No. 3 singles bracket. Erin Freeman earned a record of 1-1 while also playing in the same bracket.

Playing in the No. 4 singles bracket, Karen Alvarez lost both of her matches.

The Cyclones No. 1 doubles pair that consisted of Cancini and Repina won their matches to go 2-0. The No. 2 pairing, Bonadonna/Timakova, and No. 3 pairing, Espindola/Freeman, also went 2-0.

Alvarez teamed up with Kalyssa Hall of Minnesota to win their first doubles match. Their second match loss was the only doubles loss suffered by the Cyclones on the day.

The Cyclones current doubles record during the Invitational is 10-4.

Match play continues through Sunday September 24.
