Devon Moore, a true freshman quarterback for Iowa State, has an ACL tear and will miss the 2017 season. The news was first reported by Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register.

Moore, a native of Waterloo, Iowa, was in the mix for the backup quarterback job alongside Zeb Noland and Kyle Kempt. Noland was in the same position as Moore last year when he tore his ACL before his freshman season.

Moore was coach Matt Campbell’s first commit when Campbell arrived at Iowa State after the 2015 season.

The backup job will now belong to either Kempt or Noland. Kempt completed both of his pass attempts last season for 15 yards while Noland, like Moore, has yet to play at the college level.
