Sunday’s edition of the YMCA Capital City League went a lot like the previous weeks.

Lewis and Young stay hot

In game one, the undefeated Doerrfeld Promotions squad — featuring Terrence Lewis and Solomon Young from Iowa State — kept up its winning ways. Hinterland didn’t get much production from Donovan Jackson, who arrived to the game midway through the first half.

Lewis dropped 41 points, thanks to 7-for-11 shooting from behind the 3-point line. He also grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked a pair of shots.

Solomon Young chipped in with 17 points, 13 boards and two blocks. Young and Lewis combined to shoot 23-for-41 (56 percent) from the floor Sunday.

The play of Young and Lewis propelled the team to a 128-118 win.

Marial Shayok gunning for league MVP

Virginia transfer Marial Shayok has been a wrecking ball on offense this summer. He’s helped Sparta Waste Services put up some huge scoring totals, and that continued Sunday night.

Sparta Waste Services beat JayTees Apparel, 148-131. Shayok was responsible for 55 of those points.

Shayok and Cameron Lard combined for 93 points, 27 rebounds and 14 assists in the win. Lard also blocked three shots, including two blocks on back-to-back possessions.

The first block bounced off the backboard and towards halfcourt, leading to a fastbreak bucket. The next possession, Iowa State walk-on Jack Hutchison drove in and pulled up for a floater. Lard swatted the ball out of bounds off a wall.

With only one more regular season game left, the two Cyclones duos have stood out the most.
