Iowa State junior Bridget Carleton was named as a member of the Canada FIBA Americup team.

Carleton’s selection is the first of her career. Carleton will play in the tournament from Aug. 6-13.

“We are all so proud of Bridget,” Iowa State coach Bill Fennelly said in a press release. “She continues to show Canada basketball what we see every day at Iowa State.”

The action starts in Buenos Aires, then the top three teams earn a bid for the 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball Word Cup in Spain.

Carleton averaged 15.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists during her sophomore season, leading to an All-Big 12 First-Team unanimous selection.

Carleton is one of three college athletes playing for Canada, joining Carleton will be University of Connecticut’s Kia Nurse and Michigan State’s Shay Colley.

“I’m so excited to be on this team this summer,” Carleton said. “It’s always been a dream to play on the Canadian Senior Team and it’s surreal it’s actually happening.”
