Here are the top 5 stories from the past week:

1. Tuition increase approved– The Board of Regents approved a tuition increase for all three state universities during their regular meeting on Thursday. Tuition will increase by $216 for the 2017-2018 school year. Tuition was increased in order to cover the loss after funding cuts from the state. Both Student Government President Cody West and the Iowa State Daily Editorial weighed in on the increase.

2. AESHM program ranked top in the country– ISU’s AESHM program was ranked top in the nation by the Fashion School Career Advice. Iowa State is ranked No. 9 out of the top 50 nationally, No. 3 in the Midwest and No. 4 among public schools, regarding the fashion design program. Regarding fashion merchandising, ISU’s program is ranked No. 5 out of the top 50 in the U.S.

3. Executive Director of Board of Regents resigns– Robert Donley, executive director of the Board of Regents since 2008, announced his resignation Wednesday. Donley’s resignation will be affective starting July 15, 2017. The BOR will appoint an interim executive director on July 15 and will begin the search for someone to fill the position permanently. 

4. Nursing degree proposed to Regents– A Bachelor of Science in Nursing was proposed to the Board of Regents on Wednesday. The program hopes to accommodate 50 nursing students in the fall of 2018 and eventually would like to accommodate up to 200 students. An official decision will be made in August.

5. Breakdown of 2017 football schedule– Aaron Marner, sports editor at the Iowa State Daily, broke down the 2017 football schedule into three different parts this past week. Part one took readers back to the beginning of last season when the Cyclones got off to a rough start. Marner says that the Cyclones must start off strong this season and that September is the most important month for the team. Marner goes on to break down the rest of the schedule in parts two and three.
