Trial for Ames woman accused of murdering husband

The trial for the Ames woman accused of killing her husband by shooting him in the head while he slept in 2016, began Wednesday in Story County District Court in Nevada. Candace Cummings, 35, was arrested in early November, and charged with first-degree murder, after initially claiming the shooting was an accident. Her trial was initially set for Jan. 24, but an order was filed in December to delay the trial to May, online court records show.

Mother of victim testifies in Cummings murder trial

Kimberly Allgood remained calm Friday, despite facing the woman who is on trial for killing her son Harland “Jesse” Cummings in October 2016. She spoke about her son and the defendant’s relationship. Though she admitted that the two had some problems in the past, Allgood said that the two had plans for the future after Jesse purchased an acreage in Story City.

Ames ERP becomes lone area homeless shelter as Boone’s Crawford Hall closes

On June 30th, the Crawford Hall Family Shelter in Boone will close its door for the last time, just as the Marshalltown shelter did earlier in the year, which will leave the Ames Emergency Residence Project as the last remaining shelter for the region and the only shelter between Ames and Cedar Rapids.
