Matt Campbell and Iowa State picked up a huge — literally and figuratively — commitment Thursday afternoon.

Trevor Downing, an offensive lineman from Creston, Iowa, announced his commitment to Iowa State Thursday afternoon. The news was first reported by Randy Peterson of the Des Moines Register.

Downing, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound guard, is currently rated a three-star recruit by 247Sports and is the No. 4 ranked recruit in the state of Iowa.

A senior-to-be in the fall, Downing is the seventh verbal commit of the 2018 recruiting class for Matt Campbell’s staff.

Downing held offers from several midwest schools, including Iowa, Minnesota, Kansas State and Missouri.

With Downing’s commitment, Iowa State’s 2018 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 37 by 247Sports and No. 7 among Big 12 teams.
