Cyclone men’s golf team battle gushing winds in first day of Big 12 Championship

The Iowa State men’s golf team battled the wind today at the Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas in the first day of competition of the Big 12 Championship.

Due to the gushing winds that were recorded to be between 35-40 mph, the tournament officials postponed the tournament. All ten teams only able to compete the first round of competition.

The Cyclones are currently in ninth place, recording a score of 328, in just the first 18-holes of the 72-hole tournament. They are 10 strokes behind TCU (318)

First place belongs to Oklahoma State 302, tied for second is Baylor and Kansas both at 306, followed by Oklahoma 308 for fourth.

The highest individual golfer throughout the first round is Daniel Hudson from Kansas, a 72 on the first round. Tied for second are Garrett May from Baylor, Viktor Hovland from Oklahoma State, Brad Dalke from Oklahoma, Ivan Ramirez from Texas Tech , all at 73 apiece.

Senior Nick Voke is the highest-ranking Cyclone, scoring a first-round 76 to be tied for eighth. Voke has placed along the top-10 in his three appearances in the Big 12 Championship tournaments.

Ruben Sondjaja is tied for 22th spot after carding a 79 in the first round.

Sam Vincent, is tied for 44th scoring an 85 on the day.

Denzel Ieremia is in 48th spot scoring an 88. Two strokes after him, is Tripp Kinney scoring a 90, to be placed in 49th spot.

The second day of the Big 12 Championship will resume on Tuesday April 25, which will consist of 36 hole, followed by the third and final round on Wednesday.
