Stand-up comedian and actor Owen Benjamin will perform at SUB Comedy Night on Thursday at the Maintenance Shop.

Benjamin is primarily known for his stand-up, which he often includes a musical twist in. He’s currently performing across the country on his Huge Pianist tour but has also performed on “Late Night” with Jimmy Fallon, “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno and “Inside Amy Schumer.”

Recently, he has expanded his career into acting, appearing in movies such as “The House Bunny,” “Jack and Jill” and “Staten Island Summer.”

Later this year, his second hour-long special, “Huge Pianist,” will be released and he will make a guest appearance on Family Guy.

Comedian and Iowa State student Matt Banwart, who has opened for famous comedians such as Julian McCullough, Heywood Banks and Jon Rudnitsky, as well as local headliners Josh Novey and Dan Unthman, will open for Benjamin.

“I’ve been doing stand-up for over a year now and have done just under a hundred shows, doing about two shows a week,” Banwart said.

Banwart is quickly becoming a proficient comedian, but that’s not to say he doesn’t still get anxious onstage.

“I’m excited to work with him,” Banwart said about opening for Benjamin. “I’m a bit nervous for the show. … It’s the nervous rush that makes stand-up fun.”

The show will start at 9 p.m. and will be free to attend.
