Iowa State pulls off upset in Morgantown

The Iowa State women’s basketball team got its biggest win of the season Saturday as it won at West Virginia, 80-55.

The Cyclones dominated from start to finish. Iowa State took a 7-5 lead with 8:40 to go in the first quarter and West Virginia (16-7, 4-7 Big 12) never led after that.

Iowa State (13-10, 4-8 Big 12) played its most complete game of the season. Bridget Carleton tied a career-high with 31 points, including 22 in the first half as the Cyclones took 37-28 lead into halftime. Carleton also grabbed seven rebounds.

Senior Seanna Johnson nearly recorded a triple-double, as she tallied seven points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Iowa State shot 52 percent while holding West Virginia to just 30 percent. The Cyclones also outshot West Virginia on 3-pointers and free throws.

Jadda Buckley chipped in nine points, four rebounds and five assists. Emily Durr and Meredith Burkhall added 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Iowa State won all four quarters Saturday, with the closest quarter being a four-point Cyclone advantage in the second period.

With the win on Saturday, Iowa State moved into sixth place in the Big 12. The top six teams get a first round bye in the Big 12 tournament in March.
