The Iowa State women’s basketball team pulled off its biggest win of the season Friday night with a 70-66 win at No. 6 Texas.

Iowa State (17-11, 8-9 Big 12) fell behind 8-2 in the first few minutes. That six point deficit was the biggest Texas (21-7, 14-3 Big 12) lead of the game.

Iowa State’s big three of Seanna Johnson, Jadda Buckley, and Bridget Carleton stepped up for Iowa State in the win. In the first half, the big three combined for 30 of Iowa State’s 37 points as the Cyclones took a 37-33 lead into the halftime break.

Bridget Carleton hit a 40-foot 3-pointer to beat the buzzer at the end of the third quarter, and the Cyclones took a 58-54 lead into the final frame.

Iowa State fell behind 58-60 with just over five minutes remaining, but the Cyclones went on a 9-0 run to take a 67-60 lead. Iowa State held on over the final three minutes to get the win.

Seanna Johnson led all scorers with 22 points. Carleton and Buckley chipped in 18 and 14, respectively.

Iowa State, which was on ESPN’s “first four out” last week, should be in strong position to make the NCAA Tournament.
