Timeline: Kevin Jackson’s tenure at Iowa State

Iowa State announced Tuesday that wrestling coach Kevin Jackson is stepping down at the end of the season.

In his eight seasons at Iowa State, Jackson has a 68-54 dual record. He’s produced four NCAA champions, eight All-Americans and six Big 12 champions.

Here’s a timeline of key points in his tenure:

April 30, 2009: Jackson hired as head coach of the Iowa State wrestling program

Nov. 12, 2009: Jackson picks up first win as Iowa State head coach in season opener as No. 2 Iowa State beats South Dakota State, 43-3.

Jan. 24, 2010: No. 2 Iowa State defeats No. 3 Oklahoma State, 20-18. Jackson’s only win against Oklahoma State.

Mar. 6, 2010: Iowa State places second in Big 12 tournament with. The 197-pound Jake Varner and heavyweight David Zabriskie win individual titles. All ten wrestlers placed.

Mar. 20, 2010: Jackson coaches Jake Varner at 197 and David Zabriskie at 285 to NCAA individual championships. Iowa State places third with 75 team points with three All-Americans.

2010: Iowa State finishes season with 13-2 dual record, including a 4-0 conference record. Jackson is named 2010 Rookie Coach of the Year by Amateur Wrestling News magazine.

Mar. 17, 2011: Jackson coaches an undefeated Jon Reader to NCAA championship at 174. Iowa State didn’t have any other All-Americans and finishes 20th in team standings.

2011: Iowa State finishes season with a 9-8 dual record, going 0-4 in conference.

2012: Iowa State finishes season with a 4-13 dual record, going 0-6 in conference. Iowa State only sends five to NCAA championships, but all five fail to place.

Mar. 9, 2013: Iowa State finishes second in the Big 12 tournament with 74 team points and seven wrestlers in the finals. The 197-pound Kyven Gadson wins Big 12 title.

Mar. 23, 2013: Iowa State produces three All-Americans and finishes 11th at NCAA tournament.

2013: Iowa State finishes season with a 11-5 dual record, going 3-3 in conference after starting the season 1-3.

Mar. 8, 2014: Lelund Weatherspoon at 184 and Kyven Gadson at 197 win titles at Big 12 tournament. Iowa State finishes third in team standings.

Mar. 20, 2014: Iowa State produces three All-Americans and places 12th at NCAA tournament.

2014: Iowa State finishes season with a 9-7 dual record, going 1-3 in conference.

Nov. 23, 2014: Jackson picks up 50th win at Iowa State in a 22-9 victory over Michigan State.

Jan. 18, 2015: Iowa State defeats No. 6 Virginia Tech, 21-12.

Mar. 7, 2015: Iowa State gets six wrestlers to Big 12 finals. Kyven Gadson wins his third straight Big 12 title.

Mar. 19, 2015: Jackson coaches Kyven Gadson to an NCAA championship at 197. Iowa State which placed 14th in team standings.

2015: Iowa State finishes season with a 11-2 dual record, going 2-1 in conference.

Jan. 9, 2016: No. 18 upsets No. 5 Virginia Tech, 16-14, for the second year in a row.

Jan. 24, 2016: No. 16 Iowa State loses to No. 5 Oklahoma State, 38-3, the worst loss in school history.

Mar. 5, 2016: Lelund Weatherspoon wins Big 12 championship at 174 as Iowa State finishes third

Mar. 17, 2016: Iowa State finishes 12th in team standings at NCAA tournament, producing three All-Americans.

2016: Iowa State finishes season with a 10-6 dual record, going 2-2 in conference.

Jan. 29, 2017: Iowa State loses to No. 1 Oklahoma State, 34-3, Iowa State’s worst loss at home.

Jan. 31, 2017: Iowa State announces Jackson he will resign at the end of the 2016 season after going 1-9.
