Throwback Songs

Casey Laktas

From Beyonce to NSYNC, we all have those throwback songs that makes us think of all the memories. Whether it was a summer song or tied to a specific memory, we like to discuss what we were doing when the song became popular and why we loved it so much. If you are in the mood for throwback songs there are some good stations on Pandora that will take you back. It was difficult to narrow them down, but here are some popular songs that everyone will remember and hopefully it will remind you of some good memories.

1.  “Bye Bye Bye” by NSYNC was known by almost everyone. Even if you weren’t the biggest fan it was hard not to sing along when it came on the radio. The American boy band released their second album, which included Bye Bye Bye, in 2000 and it quickly shot into the top five of the Hot 100. The band was loved by people from all over and have sold over fifty million albums becoming the eighth best selling boy band in history.

2. Whether you like Kanye or not, his song “Gold Digger” was a catchy rap that won the Best Rap Solo Performance at the 2006 Grammy Awards. This song is considered a classic that you hear in remixes and movies.

3. “Stacy’s Mom” by Fountains of Wayne, the American rock band, released in 2003. It has been said that this song was their one-hit wonder, meaning the band will probably not achieve the same level of success that they did with “Stacy’s Mom.” Nevertheless it was a great song that had everybody singing along.

4. “I Gotta Feeling” or “Boom Boom Pow” by the Black Eyed Peas were songs that constantly had tons of play on the radio. Both of these classic summer songs were released in 2009. Both songs were catchy and easy to remember and sing along to and both songs went to number one on the Hot 100.

5. It’s hard just picking one Beyonce song, but “Crazy in Love” with Jay Z was a popular one. Released in 2003, this song is one of the best selling singles of all time and won Best R&B Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 46th Grammy Awards. It’s a song for the record books and it will be remembered for ages.
