Iowa State will host the 17 annual Iowa State Conference on Race and Ethnicity (ISCORE), this Friday, March 4. Here are some frequently asked questions by people who have or have not heard of the conference or have not attended before and would like to know a bit more.

What is the Iowa State Conference on Race and Ethnicity?

ISCORE is a conference that opens discussion about racial and ethnic issues at Iowa State and in higher education.

Who can attend ISCORE?

ISU faculty, staff and students of all races, ethnicities, gender or identities are welcome to attend.

When and what time is the conference?

Friday, March 4, 2016 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Memorial Union.

How Much does ISCORE cost?

There is no fee for those who wish to attend.

What topics will be discussed?

Exploring racial identity, inclusivity, racism, microaggressions, stereotypes, intersectionality, white privilege and the use of inclusive language are a few of the topics attendees can learn about at ISCORE.

Do I have to pre register to attend?

Registration is not required but appreciated. This can be done on the ISCORE website, iscore.iastate.edu.

What if I become uncomfortable during a session?

If you feel uncomfortable you’re welcome to quietly leave the session.

Will I be able to ask questions to speakers or ask for clarification?

At the end of sessions there should be time allotted for the audience to ask speakers questions, or for audience members to receive clarification.

Are all the sessions lectures?

Some sessions will be lectures, others will be interactive.  

Who are the keynote speakers?

Dean Luis Guitierrez from the College of Design, Dr. Barbara Love and alumni Markus Flynn.

Do I have to attend all day?

No, attendees are welcome to choose which sessions they attend.

Is it too late to become involved?

For this years conference it is too late to volunteer or submit a proposal to present, but ISCORE encourages attendance.

Is it too late to register?

If you do not register online there will be registration at the Memorial Union the day of the conference.
