Summer Trends

Emma Hassemer

As spring break is slowly coming to an end, summer is right around the corner. There are so many new trends that are popping up in stores and magazines that many people can’t wait to see this summer season.

1. Swimsuits

For men, the short shorts are back. For you guys purchasing a suit for this summer, look for suits that hit mid thigh or at least above the knee. When choosing a color, go for bright colors like a coral pink or mint green. If you want to go for a pattern, try to stay away from the Hawaiian flowers; go for a checkered or striped pattern. For women, one pieces are making a come back. Try one that dips low in the back and comes up high on the hips to make your legs appear longer. If you want something different, try a one piece with cut outs on the sides.

2. Hats

Staying protected from the sun is very important during hot summer days. Polo ball caps and bucket hats are in for men. For women, the large, floppy beach hats are a must when you visit the beach. Not only do they keep the sun out of your face, but it is an easy everyday piece to add to your summer wardrobe.

3. Skirts & Dresses

When it comes to bottoms, women have more options than men. Denim skirts have been seen in Forever 21, Pacsun and Urban Outfitters for this summer. You can get away with almost any top when you pair it with a denim skirt. An off the shoulder crop top that hits right above the skirt would be a perfect summer evening outfit. T-shirt dresses are not only a cute and casual summer outfit, but they are breathable and comfortable to wear on hot, sunny days. No one wants to wear a tight fitted outfit when it’s 90 degrees out. A t-shirt dress is a perfect outfit for humid days.

4. White Chinos

This trend has been seen constantly throughout New York Fashion Week. These pants look great paired with bright pops of colors on top. White denim chinos look best when worn with brown boots and belts. Cuffing them at the bottom can also add to this classic look.

5. Sunglasses

Sunglasses are a fashionable way to protect your eyes from the sun. For men, the wayfarer and aviator styles are in. Go for natural colors like brown or black. Women on the other hand should wear either cat eye or round lens sunglasses. Adding a pair of sunglasses to your outfit can tie your whole outfit together.
