UPDATED: 4:00 p.m. Monday

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Ames until midnight Tuesday as high winds continue to blow around snow, making roads slick and lowering visibility.

The Blizzard Warning that was in effect has been cancelled.

Snow showers will continue across the area with strong gusty northwest winds. The combination of strong winds and falling snow will continue to produce blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibilities.

Northwest winds 25 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph are possible. Visibility will be reduced to around one half mile at times, especially in rural open areas.

The advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Monday night.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow and blowing snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving especially in open areas.
