Big loss before big weekend

The Iowa State Cyclones hit the road to Logan, Utah this afternoon February 11, 2016, for a three match weekend that lies ahead. There they will face up against, (1-2) Idaho State on Friday the 12th at 11 A.M. (2-2) Utah State on Saturday the 13th at 11 A.M. and finally they’ll travel to Ogden, Utah on Sunday the 14th, to take on (0-5) Weber State at 11 A.M.

The Cyclones have had just under two weeks to prepare for this weekend’s matches. Currently with a 4-1 record and ending the month of January with three victories against: Omaha, North Dakota and Drake, the Cyclones are currently in a position to do well this weekend.

“This weekend will be another test for us, earlier this week we lost our number three, Anna Kuuttlila,” said Coach Armando Espionosa

Kuuttila is a senior and a key component to the team especially in doubles. Kuuttila is finishing her PHD in Chemical Engineering and needed the time to complete her program.

“We are extremely proud of Anna and thank her for her time with us. We wish her the best of luck.” Espinosa said.

The loss of Kuuttila will be a hit for the Cyclones. Since the beginning of the season, the Cyclones have been making adjustments in their doubles. Not being able to quite find the right pairings, Coach Espinosa has been working hard to find consistent performers for double. Unfortunately, with the loss of Kuuttila, Espinosa and his staff are back to the drawing board.

For the team, the mentality going into this weekends matches will be the same as it was in the beginning of the season. “We want to be the first to get to four wins, it puts us in a position to win, But we have to take it one match at a time.” Espinosa said early in the season.
