New Classes in the Workspace

In a four-week session, participants in the metal casting course will learn several different forms of casting and will leave the class with their own bronze casting.

New classes are beginning in the Workspace of Iowa State University’s Memorial Union.

Metal Casting- Starting Tues., Feb. 16, this class will meet weekly from 6:30-9 p.m. until Tues., March 9.

Iowa State students can participate for $53, while the general public can join the class for $63.

Instructed by John Burright, course participants will learn long-wax casting, an age-old technique to create sculptural jewelry. Students will learn both hand carved and molded forms and leave the class with a cast bronze piece.

Walk-In Craft: Felted Woodland Creatures- On Wed., Feb. 17 from 6-9 p.m., the Workspace will be open for the public to create a three-dimensional creature.

The craft costs $10 and is available to the public and Iowa State students.

Sewing: Dog Coats- On Thurs., Feb. 18 and 25, the Workspace will be hosting a sewing class for $41 for Iowa State students and $51 for the public. The class will run from 6:30-9 p.m..

This course is open to individuals with a range of sewing abilities, and beginners are encouraged to attend.

The course will focusing on knitting dog coats and will require that you take measurements before coming to class. Measurement instructions are available on the Workspace’s website.

Friday Night PYOP: Alice’s Tea Party- The Workspace will have a walk in pottery painting session on Fri., Feb. 19, from 5-8 p.m. for a $4 studio fee for ISU students, and $5 for the public.
