David Bowie

Music is something that everyone can relate to and is a great way to put an end to the daily stress that comes with being a college student. So when musicians whom we grew up listening to or that got us through some difficult times pass away it is a sad time for many. In 2015  we lost many musicians such as:

-B.B. King, a legend who was known for bringing blues into the mainstream.

-Jim Ed Brown, who started in a group with his sisters and then successfully managed a solo career for decades.

-Hollywood composer James Horner won two Academy Awards for his work, including the Titanic.

-The iconic singer, Ian Fraser “Lemmy” Kilmister left behind his legacy including his accomplishment of producing twenty studio albums.

As 2016 begins we unfortunately lost an amazing musician, David Bowie. David Bowie was a man who transformed his music into art. Ziggy Stardust is one of his most popular persona, keeping his fans and critics guessing. His album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, made him the superstar he is known to be. He made collaborations with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, while also making an album filled with cover songs, including Pretty Things and Pink Floyd. Not only did he produce album after album he also got into film landing the role in The Man Who Fell to Earth. He also performed on Broadway in The Elephant Man. Over the next decade David Bowie would go back and forth between his music and films and later married supermodel, Iman. Another great accomplishment of David Bowie is he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and was a recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. David Bowie died on January 10th, 2016 surrounded by his family and left behind his incredible legacy.
