Matt Thomas makes a pass against Baylor on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Hilton Coliseum. Baylor won the game 94-89, handing the Cyclones their first home loss of the season.

In the first week of play, the Big 12 has already lived up to its potential. With six teams either ranked in the top-25 or receiving votes, and the top two teams in the country, the Big 12 has made its mark as the best conference in basketball.

And how about that Kansas vs. Oklahoma game that went into three overtimes? College basketball at its finest.

So without further ado, here are this week’s Big 12 Power Rankings:

1. No. 1 Kansas (14-1 overall, 3-0 Big 12) (–)

Without a loss over the past week, there is no reason for Kansas to fall from the top of our power rankings. Not only are they the best team in the conference, but they’re the best team in the country.

2. No. 2 Oklahoma (13-1 overall, 2-1 Big 12) (–)

Sure, Oklahoma lost to Kansas this week — but they lost in three overtimes in one of the best basketball games I’ve ever watched. They fully deserve to be number two in our power rankings. If I could, the Sooners would be ranked No. 1B.

3. No. 11 West Virginia (14-1 overall, 3-0 Big 12) (+1)

The logic behind this one is simple. West Virginia won three games this week. They, along with Kansas, are the only undefeated teams in conference play thus far. While they haven’t proved enough to jump Oklahoma yet, they certainly can in the weeks to come. Don’t forget about West Virginia.

4. No. 22 Baylor (12-3 overall, 2-1 Big 12) (+1)

Baylor came into Hilton Coliseum, a place where the Cyclones rarely lose, and pulled off the upset. While there are still questions surrounding this team, this week they earned the right to jump Iowa State. It’s that simple.

5. No. 17 Iowa State (12-3 overall, 1-2 Big 12) (-2)

Sorry, everybody. While I won’t put much stock in the Cyclones’ loss to Oklahoma, I will pay attention to the Baylor loss. There are plenty of questions surfacing about the Cyclones currently — including their lack of depth, something I think will play a big factor later in the season. While they can still get things back on track, it could take some time.

6. Texas Tech (11-3 overall, 1-2 Big 12) (+3)

I don’t know what Chris was thinking ranking Texas Tech ninth last week. This team is good. Sure, they also have just one win in the first three conference games, but they came to play in both of them. The Red Raiders were right in both their games against Iowa State and Kansas, proving that they can hang with any team in the country.

7.  Texas Christian (9-6 overall, 1-2 Big 12) (+3)

I believe that TCU and Texas are tied right now in the rankings, but the Horned Frogs get the edge after their 58-57 win over Texas on Saturday.

8. Texas (9-6 overall, 1-2 Big 12) (-2)

Texas and TCU are equal in my mind, but since the Longhorns fell at the end to TCU on Saturday, they fall behind the Horned Frogs.

9. Oklahoma State (9-6 overall, 1-2 Big 12) (-1)

Sure, Oklahoma State beat TCU in their opening game. But they didn’t put up much of a fight against either Baylor or West Virginia. This is where I have them landing this week.

10. Kansas State (10-5 overall, 0-3 Big 12) (-3)

Kansas State lost all three of their conference games this week. While I believe that the Wildcats are better than the last place in the conference, they certainly aren’t playing like it right now.
