Preview: RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER: THE MUSICAL

Claire Norton

Step into the holidays by seeing the musical, based on an ever-so classic stop-motion film, “RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER: THE MUSICAL” at C.Y. Stephens Auditorium tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Students can purchase tickets at the C.Y. Stephens Auditorium box office for $28.

The musical will feature the known and beloved characters: Rudolph, his sweetheart, Clarice and his friends Hermey the Elf, Yukon Cornelius.

The original stop-motion film featured a snowman named Sam telling the story of Rudolph, a red-nosed reindeer, who is cast out from his reindeer friends upon discovering his discolored nose, which also lights up and hums.

Rudolph discovers another individual who also does not fit in. Hermey the Elf, a toymaker wishing to become a dentist, joins Rudolph in defiance.

Both Rudolph and Hermey meet Yukon Cornelius, a prospector, and together, the three encounter the Abominable Snowmonster and later discover an entire land of toys that are unlike any other: The Island of Misfit Toys.

Reassuring Rudolph and Hermey that they are not alone in being different, the toys also ask Rudolph to request that Santa help them.

Rudolph then returns to the North Pole, only to find that Santa is unable to make his required annual sleigh ride on Christmas Eve due to a foggy weather report. Santa has an epiphany: let Rudolph’s shiny nose guide the sleigh.

And the rest was history…until the musical.

Reminisce over childhood holiday memories and capture the spirit of the holiday season and the meaning of friendship, as Rudolph and his friends share what the season is all about.

What to expect: adventure, misfit toys, tender hearts and the one and only Abominable Snowmonster.
