The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a winter weather advisory in preparation for winter weather expected to impact Iowa on Monday.

According to the weather service, freezing rain will develop Sunday night before changing to all snow Monday morning. Light snow and a mix of rain and snow will continue into Monday evening before switching back to snow overnight Monday and Tuesday.

Snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are possible.

Ice accumulations of one- to two-tenths of an inch are be possible as well, which may cause hazardous travel conditions.

Winds at 10 to 20 mph may cause blowing snow and impact visibility.

The advisory begins at midnight Monday and continues through 6 p.m. Tuesday.

A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow and freezing rain will cause travel difficulties.
