Iowa State and in-state rival Northern Iowa appeared to be well on their way to overtime until the Cyclones were able to find the back of the net for their second goal in as many games after four straight zero goal performances.

In the 74th minute, the Cyclones were finally able to break through. Senior Haley Albert found a streaking Koree Willer who was able to take the ball down the field.

Willer found a clear path and ripped a shot from the top of the box, which successfully found the bottom left corner of the net. Willer’s goal put the Cyclones up 1-0 with about 15 minutes left in the game.

After weeks of disappointing losses, Iowa State was not about to let a late lead slip away. Iowa State amped up the defensive pressure and UNI was unable to score a late-game equalizer.

The Cyclones will return to Big 12 play Friday, where they will host Oklahoma State. The Cyclones are still winless in the Big 12, with only three games remaining in the regular season.
