Cyclone Hockey hosted the Williston State Tetons in a rare mid-week game Tuesday night at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena.

The Cyclones mixed the lineup to get more Division III players involved and made the decision to give some Division I players the night off in preparation for this weekend’s series against Lindenwood.

Freshman Jon Severson scored the first goal of the game at the 13:57 mark in the first period, and Cyclone Hockey finished the first period with a 1-0 lead against the Tetons.

Goaltender Nic Wackerly started the game for the Cyclones and stopped all seven first period shots.

Williston State was able to sneak one of its six second period shots past Wackerly to even the score at one and added another goal three minutes into the third period to take the lead over Cyclone Hockey 2-1.

Alex Stephens tied the game with five minutes remaining off an assist from Mark Wishman, but with less than 1:30 left in the game, the Tetons scored the game-winning goal and took the victory, 3-2.

Lindenwood visits the Ames/ISU Ice Arena this weekend for a double-header between a pair or top-five teams on Friday and Saturday starting at 7:30 p.m.
