“Pointland: A Play For Audio” is a vinyl LP and digital download that Maximum Ames Records will release Friday, Oct. 2.

The record is a project of Jerrod B. Jordahl, a Des Moines-based playwright and artist, and was funded by the Iowa Arts Council.

According to the Maximum Ames website, the play “follows a disgraced recluse and his staff in the weeks leading up to their mysterious departure from his large family estate.”

“As their final day approaches, and the external begins to weaken his façade, a series of surreal encounters will force the man to accept loss of control,” Maximum Ames said about the play.

The soundtrack of the play features music from local musicians, such as Paul Hertz of Mumford’s, Kate Kennedy of Pennyhawk and Neon and Nude, and Philip Rabalais of Utopia Park and Trouble Lights.

A debut listening and exhibition, which features artwork inspired by the play, will open Saturday at Substance Architecture in Des Moines alongside the release of the record. The listening party starts at 6:30 p.m., and the exhibition will begin at 8 p.m.

The exhibition will house art from Jordahl, Devin Walker, Blake Fisher and Chris Lyng in the form of prints, paintings, video and an installation piece.

The record will be available for purchase Saturday on the Maximum Ames website in both physical and digital format.
