The Iowa State Cyclones Softball team kicks off the Big 4 Classic on Friday night against Drake.

The Big 4 Classic is a weekend round-robin tournament where Iowa State, Northern Iowa, Iowa and Drake all play each other in Des Moines to decide bragging rights for the state in softball.

Iowa State comes into the game with a record of 3-2 in this fall season, splitting its last doubleheader Sunday at South Dakota 8-9 and 7-6.

Senior Brittany Gomez will lead her team into the tournament coming off of a impressive junior year. Gomez was All-Big 12 Second Team for the third straight year and added her first Big-12 All Defense Team.

Last season, Gomez also hit at an average of .425 in all 54 of Iowa State’s games last year while playing center field.

After the Cyclones play the Bulldogs, they will play the Hawkeyes and Panthers on Sunday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.

First pitch for ISU softball coach Stacy Gemeinhardt-Cesler’s team’s first game of the classic is at 6 p.m. Friday in Des Moines.
