ISU soccer falls in overtime 2-1 against Colorado

The Cyclones appeared to be cruising towards another victory until a late-game goal forced overtime, where Colorado eventually capitalized on a game-winning penalty kick.

Iowa State (4-2) got on the board early when Koree Willer found the back of the net in the fourth minute. Senior Haley Albert assisted Willer on the play that put the Cyclones in the driver seat right out of the gates.

The Cyclones maintained that 1-0 advantage for much of the game, until Colorado found an equalizer in the 82 minute. Colorado put away a rebounded shot to tie the game at one goal a piece.

The final eight minutes of the game ticked by without a goal, forcing overtime. Overtime would not last long, though, as the Cyclones were whistled for a penalty just five minutes in.

Colorado took full advantage as Brie Hooks hammered home a goal on the penalty kick for the win.

The Cyclones will next be in action on Sept. 11 when they take on Iowa in the annual CyHawk Series.
