Record enrollment means record strain

Eric Wirth

With a record number of students on campus, the facilities at Iowa State are experiencing record amounts of usage.

Between a lack of classroom space and increased usage of areas like bathrooms, Iowa State is doing all they can to rectify the pains that come with a growing university.

Some growth highlights:

  • 36,001: the number students this fall – another semester of record enrollment
  • 214: the number of classrooms at Iowa State, all of which are being used to the limit even though they only take up 4 percent of campus.
  • 30 percent: the percent increase of toilet paper usage on campus this fall.
  • 2: the number of times each restroom in many university buildings now has to be cleaned per day
  • 19 to 1: the current student to faculty ratio
