Ames Municipal Band to perform patriotic concert

The Ames Municipal Band performs in the 2014 Fourth of July parade in Ames.

The Ames Municipal Band will perform a patriotic concert at 8 p.m. Thursday at Bandshell Park.

The Ames Choral Society, under the direction of Steve Hoifeldt, will provide pre-show entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. and will join the Municipal Band during the 8 p.m. concert.

Brett McClain, director of the Story County Veterans Association, will narrate a special selection based on the life of John F. Kennedy. All veterans and current members of the armed forces will be recognized at the concert.

Following the concert, the Ames Municipal Band will play at 8 p.m. every Thursday at Bandshell Park. Beginning July 9, the band will play and feature another musical ensemble each week, which ends July 30. 

All attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to the free concert.
