Weeklong marimba music festival arrives at Iowa State

Ames is hosting several professional performances this week, all of which are open to the public as part of the Heartland Marimba Festival’s marimba concert series. The suggested donation for each performance is $15 unless otherwise specified.

The opening concert took place Monday at Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall on the ISU campus. This performance featured Clocks in Motion and ISU music instructor Matthew Coley.

“Marimba Mix” will perform at Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall as well. Featuring Clocks in Motion and many different artists, this concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Festival ensembles will collaborate with the Ames Municipal Band at Bandshell Park on Sixth Street and Duff Avenue at 7 p.m. Thursday. This event is free and open to the public.

The soloists’ concert at 7 p.m. Friday will be followed by a reception at First United Methodist Church at 516 Kellogg Ave.

The festival’s closing concert, which will feature the festival marimba orchestra and all performers, will start at 2 p.m. Saturday at Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall.
