Surviving the rest of the spring semester

Dustin Edle

Spring Break is a great pause from college and the responsibilities of real life, but coming back to reality often leads to post-Spring Break blues. Not to mention that the last half of second semester flies by in a frenzy of tests and final projects, and this year there’s no Veishea to provide a brief escape. Here are a few do’s and dont’s to help you navigate the final stretch of the spring semester with minimal stress and a decent GPA.

DO try to shake off Spring Break mode as soon as possible. DON’T continue to behave like you did in PCB — it’ll only set you back. I know it’s hard to come back to school after Spring Break, especially if you spent yours taking shots on the beach and not even considering the thought of homework. But sooner or later class deadlines will loom, and the sooner you can get out of Spring Break mode and back into student mode, the easier it will be to come back to class.

DO put your focus on this semester. DON’T stress about the future until it’s here! It’s tempting to daydream about what this summer may bring, or what next fall will be like with new classes and another year at Iowa State under your belt. Try to focus on what you can do in the present to not only set yourself up for success when these times come, but how to finish out this year strong.

DO make time for your friends, hobbies and passions. DON’T let the stress affect your mood. It might be easier said than done, but you shouldn’t let your daily troubles bring you down too much. Make time to hang out with your friends, read a book, whatever helps calm you down. Schoolwork is important, but it’s the memories you make with your friends that you’ll remember after you graduate.

DO make the most of your time here. DON’T wish your college years away. It’s stressful, sure, and you’re probably already daydreaming about graduation, but you have the rest of your life to work and be a boring adult.  So enjoy it while you can!
