Uber reveals how much employees are paid

Uber, a new car service, has revealed how much money they are paying their drivers. Uber can be installed as an app on a phone and all one has to do is download the app, put a credit card on file, and then as they purchase rides the money will just be added to their credit card bill.

Kind of like a taxi service, but people don’t have to run up and down the side of the street trying to get a cab, the Uber vehicle will be there within minutes and the driver will give the person a call and tell them they are where they need to be.

USA Today reported that in 2014, Uber had 160,000 drivers in the United States and at the end of the latest quarter that ended in December, Uber paid its drivers $656.8 million to their drivers which equals out to $4,105 per driver in that specific quarter. That means that an Uber driver in the past year has made $16,420.

When somebody decides that they want to be a driver for Uber, they are fully responsible for their car whether it be the gas or the general maintenance. However, even though the company controls the fare prices, in an attempt to get more customers, fare prices have been dropped, meaning lower wages for the drivers.

In a report from USA Today, 52 percent of Uber drivers have part-time jobs and drive on the side. Also, nearly a third of all drivers for Uber have full-time jobs and decided to drive on the side-especially in large cities, driving around on a weekend in a busy city could be a great way to generate more income. However, only making $16,420 a year could be very difficult for somebody to live on, especially if they are trying to support a family.

Uber is getting more and more popular because when somebody is in need of a ride and doesn’t want to go stand outside, all they have to do is just type a couple buttons onto their phone and their ride will be there within minutes.

It is unknown if fares will go up as Uber gets more and more customers, especially in bigger cities. But in the meantime, Uber is a very convenient app that can be very helpful and easy to obtain if one is ever stuck in a city.
