ISU center Bryanna Fernstrom has been awarded her second Big 12 Freshman of the Week honor of the season, the conference announced on Dec. 22. Fernstrom also won the award on Nov. 17 after the season’s first week of play.

The 6-foot-5-inch freshman from Center City, Minn., received the honor on the heels of her first career double-double in Iowa State’s 76-63 win against Fairfield on Dec. 21. Fernstrom scored 20 points and corralled a season-high 11 rebounds against the Stags in only 20 minutes of action.

In what was her second game of the year with at least 20 points, Fernstrom hit that mark with an efficient 7-of-11 shooting (63.6 percent), including 2-of-2 from three-point range.

On the season, Fernstrom has started all nine games and is averaging 10.6 points and 4.3 rebounds in 18.6 minutes per contest.

The ISU women’s basketball team has a week off before returning to Hilton Coliseum for the opening round of the two-day 2014 Cyclone Challenge on Dec. 29.
