The Lowdown

Iowa State’s defense did all they could to keep the Cyclones in the game against the nation’s No. 3 team, holding TCU to 17 first-half points. The offense, however, couldn’t get anything going, scoring only three points in the second quarter to avoid the shutout.

ISU quarterback Sam Richardson struggled against the TCU defensive front, feeling the pressure in the pocket for the majority of the game and was unable to get on the same page as his receivers. Richardson was visibly hobbling at times, raising questions about his health, which may have contributed to his four rushes for negative 14 yards, a season low.

Iowa State ends the season 2-10 overall and 0-9 in Big 12 play. No. 3 TCU hopes to keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive, finishing the season 11-1 overall and 8-1 in the Big 12.

Turning Point

With a 17-3 lead at halftime, the Horned Frogs wasted no time after receiving the second-half kickoff, scoring just over a minute into the half to start a 38-0 run, blowing by the Cyclones.

The Horned Frogs took a knee on fourth down with just over four minutes to play inside the 10-yard line, which likely would have ended in more points if they had played it out.

The X-Factor

Trevone Boykin — Nobody made more of an impact in this game than Boykin, throwing four touchdowns and catching a touchdown pass on a trick play. With more than 550 yards of total offense in just over three quarters of action, Boykin was able to shred the ISU defense through the air, on the ground and catching the ball.
