Greensky Bluegrass will be performing on Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. at Wooly’s in Des Moines.

Based in Kalamazoo, MI, the band came together in early 2000 and have been molding their own unique sound. While their genre is defined as bluegrass, there are hints of rock in their songs.

I don’t feel confined by the style…we have left behind the confines of the genre. We all love bluegrass, but we also love jam bands, rock ‘n’ roll and jazz equally as much. I think that that comes through in the overall vibe of the band,” said dobro player, Anders Beck.

Their fifth studio album, “If Sorrow Swims”, went No. 1 on the bluegrass charts and made the Billboard 200 when it was released on Sept. 9 this year. Greensky has played at music festivals such as Bonnaroo and the Austin City Limits Festival.

Greensky Bluegrass has become a real staple in the bluegrass community. According to Burke VanRaalte, every time Greensky performs at Wooly’s, their show gets bigger and bigger.

Doors open on Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15-$17, and the show is only for those 21 and older.
