Russel Wilson, Seattle Seahawks overcome adversity in MNF game

Adversity is the state or instance of a serious or continued difficulty or misfortune. In sports, adversity is something you have to overcome if you want to make it far in your season.

The ability to overcome adversity is a main attribute of a great football team. If you are unable to look over mistakes and overcome faults, you can lose grip of your season in one week. Last night, the Seattle Seahawks overcame adversity and showed America why they were Super Bowl champions a year ago and why they should still be considered the favorites for this season.

Seahawks WR Percy Harvin had three touchdowns overturned due to penalties in last night’s Monday night football game against the Washington Redskins. Along with those three scores overturned, the Seahawks had an array of mistakes that could of easily lead to a lost game. On the flipside, if the Seahawks would of not made those mistakes, they would have displayed a blowout on national television instead of the 27-17 victory they posted.

”It could’ve been a very big night for us,” Seattle head coach Pete Carroll said in a post game interview. ”We came out flying, but we were just a little bit out of whack.”

Despite the being out of whack, the Seahawks (3-1) still continued their dominance in prime time games moving to 11-1 under Carroll.

Usually when dealing with adversity, you look to your leader to guide you to victory. Last night that statement fit true as Seattle’s leader took over the game.

Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks QB, rushed for a career-high 122 yards and a touchdown while also completing 18 of 24 passes for 201 yards with two scores.

Wilson impressed throughout, whether it was a designed run or a scramble out of the pocket. He marched out four long rushes of 16, 29, 13 and 22 in the first two drives. He also pulled off two incredible scrambles in the second half after the Redskins threatened to make a game of it and turn the momentum their way. Wilson was able to once again prove to America why he is one of the best QB’s in the NFL and why football is all about overcoming mistakes and making something out of them.

NFL analyst, Jon Gruden, was quoted saying, “that might be the greatest play I’ve seen Russell Wilson make,” when he was referring to one of the two scrambles Wilson had in the second half.

Last night’s game dropped back up QB Kirk Cousins to 1-6 in his career as the redskins starter after starting off so hot when he replaced the injured RG3. The Redskins are 1-4 on the season and will need to turn this around in next week’s contest against the Arizona Cardinals.
