The ISU tennis team struggled to open the weekend of Jason’s Deli Collegiate Invitational in Houston, Texas.

Seniors Meghan Cassens and Caroline Andersen defeated their Syracuse opponents in singles. The rest of the team was defeated by the Orange in single matches. Cassens won her match 6-1, 5-7, 10-8 and Andersen won in a more dominant fashion 6-0, 6-3. 

The results for doubles came out even with two wins and two losses. Sophomore Samantha Budai and senior Ksenia Pronina won their match 8-3. Junior Alejandra Galvis and Andersen also won their match 8-7. 

Coach Armando Espinosa is looking at results to determine the lineup for the regular season.

The players will have a break tonight from action and start again on Saturday at 9 a.m. The team will be paired against the University of Oklahoma and Southern Methodist University.
