The Lowdown

The Hawkeyes had a 14-3 lead into the second half before the Cyclones came storming back to take a 17-14 lead halfway through the fourth quarter. The Hawkeyes tied it up 17-17 before the Cyclones marched down the field and set up a 42-yard Cole Netten field goal with two seconds remaining to win the game.

Turning Point

Down 14-3 in the third quarter, T.J. Mutcherson intercepted Jake Rudock to set up an ISU touchdown. The Hawkeyes could not get anything going on offense as the Cyclones went on to outscore Iowa 17-3 the rest of the game.

The X Factor

Sam Richardson: There was no question Richardson had improved his accuracy and patience over the offseason after two accurate games to start the season, but his performance against Iowa withdrew any doubt that he was the man for the job.

Richardson finished with 255 yards passing on 25-of-37 passes and two touchdowns, along with 29 yards rushing. Despite throwing a few bad balls, Richardson had his best game of the season.
