ISU soccer claims third straight win, records first shutout of season

Following an emotional win against Iowa in the annual Cy-Hawk series Sept. 5, ISU soccer had a quick turnaround facing off against North Dakota State.

The match was a defensive battle that remained scoreless for most of the game. In the 82nd minute, Koree Willer was able to find the back of the net and break the scoreless deadlock.

Iowa State had opportunities all game long as the Cyclones fired 11 shots in the first half and 18 shots in the game. North Dakota State held strong, however, turning away every scoring attempt except for Willer’s goal in the final 10 minutes of the game.

While Iowa State’s offense was busy trying to find the net, the team’s defense didn’t get much action. North Dakota State had zero shot attempts at half and only two shots in the entire game.

The 1-0 victory is Iowa State’s first shutout of the season. The win improves the Cyclones’ record to 4-2-0 on the season.

The Cyclones will take a two-game road trip to Colorado where they will face off against Northern Colorado at 8 p.m. Sept. 12 and University of Denver at noon Sept. 14.
