Hockey takes first game of series against North Iowa
September 12, 2014
Iowa State won its first of two games this weekend against the North Iowa Bulls Friday night, coming back from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2.
The line of Zack Johnson, Jake Bruhn and Alex Stephens continued its hot streak with two goals. The line has scored five goals in two games.
The Bulls got on the board first in the first period with a pass play that ultimately ended up in the back of the net courtesy of Dylan Zins. North Iowa tacked on one more in the second period to jump to a 2-0 lead.
Following a penalty by the Bulls, Johnson deflected a puck into the net in the middle of a pileup eight seconds into the power play. Senior forward Nate Percy knotted the score going coast-to-coast to put the puck in the upper right-hand corner with just over two minutes left in the second period.
Late in the third period, Stephens finished a pass play from Johnson and Bruhn to put the Cyclones up 3-2 with 4:17 left. That goal ended up being the game winner.
The Cyclones finish the series against the North Iowa Bulls at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena.
