Men, go get a suit

Christian Dahl

With the career fairs coming up, getting a suit should be a priority at this point. Even guys that already have a suit, this doesn’t exclude you. Girls stay tuned too: I have included a picture of Chuck Bass. Guys, poorly fitted suits are an unfortunate staple in a lot of college men’s wardrobes for some reason. Return the baggy suit to dad, and go with a more fitted look. Here are my two favorite options for suits that won’t break the bank.

European outfitter, Topman, produces modern suits that look like they are designed for college students. They carry an almost endless amount of options, with a fit that won’t make you drown in your suit. If you want to keep it simple, you can’t go wrong with an all black suit. If you want to switch it up, look for a dark navy suit or a light gray. One thing you’ll really love is the price point, with most suits running in the $150 to $300 dollar range. While initially that may be a lot of dough, with all the interviews you’ll be getting when recruiters see you in your sleek new suit, it’ll be worth it. Pictured is Topman’s Mid Grey Slim Fit Suit, which is currently running for $168.

Our next option is an American outfitter, Express. They produce one of the most popular suits in the game right now, at a price point that’ll still allow you to go out and celebrate after you lock up an internship for next summer. Their most popular model is their “Photographer” suit. Although it is a trim fit, it is still more than doable for guys with a more athletic build. At the moment, the jacket and pants are going for just under $200 bucks, and the quality on these suits is definitely not lacking. Pictured is the “Photograher” suit described above.

Now that we have our suits picked out, let us look at what to wear with them. With our gray suits a great combination is a light blue shirt, paired with a black belt and black shoes. We want to make sure to keep our belt and shoe a similar color, and make sure your shirt doesn’t clash with the rest of your ensemble. A great look for our navy suit would be pairing it with a light pink undershirt and some brown loafers. As far as ties go, shoot for a similar cut on your tie as your suit. It makes no sense in having a chunky tie with a slim cut suit. A skinny tie can really put the whole package together. The color of your tie is a wild card; you could go with something matching an article you are already wearing, or switch it up and have it be somewhat of an independent entity.

Whatever you decide to go with, rock it with confidence–that is what it is all about. Rocking a suit with confidence does come a little easier with a well-fitted, color-coordinated ensemble though. Look around, and please don’t buy a suit without trying it on. A good look is included below!
