Still no word from music’s mystery man Frank Ocean

Christian Dahl

Where has Frank Ocean been? One of Odd Future’s most well known members has not come out with a solo project in more than two years. The notable singer-songwriter who’s debut album “Channel Orange” won a Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album, and was nominated for Album of the Year, Best New Artist and Record of the Year, has still yet to announce a release date for his highly anticipated sophomore album.

Ocean, 26, who besides making a few appearances at various music festivals this summer, has continued to keep a pretty low profile. We live in a day where it seems that every artist is either posting on Instagram to share their whereabouts 24/7, or taking to twitter for nonstop promotion of their most recent projects.

Oddly enough, no pun intended, Ocean takes the road less traveled with his only public outreaches coming through a Tumblr post every few weeks. While his first album dropped more than two years ago, it is unknown what is taking him so long to come out with new solo material.

Though his solo material has been lacking since the summer of 2012, he hasn’t shied away from collaborating with some of the biggest names in music. From singing the hook on “Oceans” on Jay-Z’s most recent album “Magna Carta Holy Grail”, to singing the outro and co-writing the Grammy nominated single “New Slaves” by Kanye West.

Ocean’s services have definitely been in high demand. Because of the fact that most artists’ work is now leaked via the Internet before their albums officially drop, Ocean released his debut album through digital copy unannounced. With still no word on an official release date, let us hope that he takes a similar route with his second album, and sooner rather than later.
