Hit-and-run accident occurs on Highway 30

A two-car hit-and-run accident July 4 resulted in one person with serious injuries being sent to a hospital in Des Moines and two others having minor injuries. The accident occurred on the eastbound exit of Highway 30 at Duff Avenue. A black SUV struck a silver 2003 Ford Explorer, sending it into the ditch after flipping several times. The SUV left the accident but was found by Ames police a short while later.

An two-car accident has occurred on the eastbound exit of Highway 30 at Duff Avenue. Police and ambulances responded to the accident. Traffic was directed around the exit.

Ames police described the accident as a hit and run. Ames police found the suspect vehicle, a dark colored SUV, after the accident.

The other vehicle, a silver 2003 Ford Explorer, ended up in the ditch on the south side of the road after flipping several times, according to an official statement from the Ames Police. The accident occurred at approximately 3:48 p.m. on Friday.

The driver of the silver SUV had serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in Des Moines, according to Ames Police. The two passengers of the white SUV were treated at the scene and released.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident. It is still unknown whether or not alcohol was involved in the incident. No names are being released at this time.
