Junior shot putter Christina Hillman’s winning ways continued June 14 as she clinched Iowa State’s only national title at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship.

On the final day of competition, the Cyclone defended her NCAA indoor title in the shot put and earned her second national championship of the year.

Hillman threw a personal best and an ISU record of 58 feet, 2 inches to earn first place. Her victory makes her the third Cyclone in program history to win a national title in both the indoor and outdoor championships in the same event.

The four-time All-American will compete again later this month at the USA Outdoor Championship.

Two other Cyclones also competed June 14. Redshirt junior Kelly McCoy finished 18th overall in the high jump, clearing a height of 5 feet, 7.75 inches.

Katy Moen returned to the track as well to compete in the women’s 5,000-meter run. Moen finished 23rd overall, coming in with a time of 16:55.02.

The Cyclone women finished 15th overall with 16 total team points. Texas A&M won the women’s NCAA team titles with 75 total points.
