TV Review: Game of Thrones

A great follow-up episode this week as everyone was left wondering who would be representing Tyrion in his trial by combat. There were some really good scenes this, week especially for Tyrion, and a lot of these scenes held quite a bit of emotional weight.

Arya and The Hound had some really great scenes together it seems they’re back to being more friendly than when we last saw them. One of the brief action moments saw Arya dispatching yet another person on her growing list with ruthless efficiency, which was very satisfying to see. We also got to see the Hound open up about how his face was burned, and his relationship with the Mt.  This is the most we’ve seen him open up on the show, and its probably the most he’s opened up in his life. Seeing The Hound in this vulnerable state really shows what a complex character The Hound can be.

We took a detour to Mereen for a little bit to catch up with Daenerys and we got to see Daario finally make his move. We also spent some time near the end of the episode at The Eyrie which saw Littlefingera making some bold (and pretty creepy) moves. Robin getting slapped by Sansa was also  pretty gratifying considering what a brat Robin is. We also got some more Podrick and Brienne as they seem to be getting along fairly well while they search for Sansa.

The focus of the episode however, was once again on Tyrion. More specifically on fallout from his “trial” and subsequent outburst. Tyrion got some more really strong material in this episode and his scene with Bronn was actually rather heartbreaking. The scene with Oberyn promises to yield the most consequences for coming episodes, and its nice to see hi start fulfilling his role of the “wild card” as touted by the shows producers. Unfortunately we will have to wait two weeks to see how it all plays out, as Game of Thrones will be taking Memorial Day Weekend off.
