Three Cyclones advance to NCAA quarterfinal round

After day one of the NCAA Wrestling Championships, the Iowa State wrestling team is in ninth place in Oklahoma City. The Cyclones advanced three wrestlers into the quarterfinal round, and are sitting with 15 total team points.

Three ISU wrestlers went a perfect 2-0 on the day, and advanced to the quarterfinal rounds. All-Americans Kyven Gadson and Mike Moreno, along with freshman Earl Hall each came up with two wins Thursday.

There were three other Cyclones that competed in the tournament Thursday, but failed to make the quarterfinal round. Both Gabe Moreno and Tanner Weatherman defeated their initial opponent, but fell in the round of 32.

Lelund Weatherspoon lost in round one to No. 3 Gabe Dean of Cornell, sending him to the consolation bracket.

The quarterfinals of the NCAA championships will begin at 10 a.m. Friday.
