The Cyclone Hockey team’s season comes to an end with a 3-1 loss to Oklahoma in the quarterfinals of the American Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament on Sunday.

Following yesterday’s 3-1 win over rival Ohio, the No. 10 Cyclones (34-9-4, 14-5-1 CSCHL) were competing for a spot in the semifinals against No. 2 Sooners (26-5-3). But a three-goal third period by Oklahoma knocked the Iowa State out of the tournament.

In the first period, ISU forward Jake Bruhn gave the Cyclones a 1-0 lead with a five-on-four power play goal.

It took until the third period for the Sooners to tie the game with a goal by OU forward Jordan Greenburg.

Late in the third, OU Tyler Jones scored twice in under three minutes to give the Sooners a 3-1 lead.

The Cyclones pulled ISU goalie Matt Cooper for an extra attacker to try to even the score in the final minutes of the third, but couldn’t get the puck to go in.

This was the last game as a member of Cyclone Hockey for seniors Mark Huber, Chris Cucullu, Jon Feavel and Matt Bennet.

In the offseason, the Cyclones will decide whether to have interim head coach Jason Fariman fill the coach position permanently.
