Cyclone Hockey gets win against Ohio

After losing to Ohio in the past three postseason appearances, the Cyclone Hockey team gets some revenge.

The No. 10 Cyclones (35-9-4, 14-5-1 CSCHL) were able to beat the rival No. 7 Bobcats (30-7-3) 3-1 in the first round of the American Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament on Saturday. This win ended Iowa State’s losing streak to Ohio in playoff hockey.

Ohio University forward Matt Hartman scored first to put the Bobcats up by one early in the first period. ISU forward Chris Cucullu was able to tie the game late in the period, though, with a goal with only 1:35 left on the clock.

ISU forward Matt Bennett gave the Cyclones the lead in the second period by putting the puck in the back of the net during a five-on-four power play.

ISU forward Jon Feavel extended the Cyclones’ lead in the third period with a shorthanded goal. This goal marks Feavel’s 23rd goal on the season — which leads the Cyclones.

Iowa State will go head-to-head on the ice at 3 p.m. Sunday against No. 2 Oklahoma (25-5-3) in the tournament quarterfinals.
